If you are thinking when it comes to upgrading to a severe sports watch for running, cycling rowing or any other outdoor sport that involves moving at rapid velocity, you will have to severely consider a watch with speed and distance tracking ability. The best sports watch models track, not only speed, but record distance over a session or group of sessions, log elevation above sea-level, may navigate amidst marked emplacements and offer speed, pace and distance alerts

There are various leading model sports watch that have speed and distance tracking at respective price points and three main technologies for measuring speed and distance: pedometer, accelerometer foot pod and GPS. Pedometer watches like the Tech 4 O series are amidst the for less and least exact watches. They rely on calculating your number of steps to estimate speed and distance.

Of the GPS watches, the Timex Ironman T5E701 is perhaps the cheapest. It features 100-Lap memory, countdown timer and an odometer that tallies up the total distance for a workout or group of workouts. The Garmin Forerunner watches 205, 305 and 405 are the most general GPS watches on the market. What is less well known is that the 305 and 405 are likewise compatible with a foot pod unit, just in case GPS isn’t enough.

Food pot gimmicks measure speed and distance by almost tracking leg speed and cadence. They are when it comes to as precise as a GPS watch, but may need to be calibrated. Unlike a GPS they may be applied around huge objects and buildings as well as indoors. A GPS device requires a clear unobstructed view of the sky to pick up the satellite signals. The feed pod, different from a GPS, is not effective when used for rowing or kayaking and can not measure altitude or plot a course in 3D.

Other remarkable GPS watches to look out for include the not long back freed GlobalSat GH-25M, the Timex Ironman Bodylink watches, the Polar RS800CX and the Suunto Trainer Series watches.

GPS on Suunto, Polar and Timex watches is handled with an optional add-on pod that is secured to your body with a strap or clip. The GPS pods are an optional feature that does not always come as part of the watch bundle, but may be purchased separately. The Forerunner and GlobalSat watches are both one-piece GPS watches.

Whatever your walk of life, if your sport involves you moving from point A to point B, a sports watch that is competent of measuring speed and distance may track your speed, calculate how much distance you have covered or even plot your journeying on a map. The possiblenesses are endless.

The TIMEX StoryTimex
The Timex Watch Company

Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex’s U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company started out in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut’s Naugatuck Valley, known for the duration of the nineteenth century as the “Switzerland of America.” Sister company Waterbury Watch fictitious the initial inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury started out making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the firstborn Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey’s hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized it is durability by putting the watch through “torture tests,” such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” With the support of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitory and the Timex brand proceeds it is dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, altho the Timex brand is sold international due to it is capacity to capitalize on it is strong brand effigy and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and primary features available on some Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an prompt success. The Indiglo® lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very without apparent effort in a lot of dissimilar light settings. In numerous newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group productions are fabricated in the Far East and in Switzerland often times based on engineering science that proceeds to be produced in the United States and in Germany. With a huge and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

5Nice watch
By The World’s Greatest
I really like this watch, I got it for working out and jogging. I think it has a nice pleasant look to it, unlike many digital watches, and it is very comfortable to wear. Watch is very lightweight and the band looks very handsome. Has everything you really need, two time zones, timer, stopwatch, daily alarm, indiglo. I use the stopwatch to time how long my tea brews, and the timer to keep myself from burning things in the oven. The alarm has no snooze, so I wouldn’t rely on that to wake you up, but perhaps you could use the alarm as a reminder to do something. For 15 bucks, this watch is a great buy.

Nice lightweight watch, indigo light works great, looks good for an inexpensive watch. Gone swimming and banged it around a little bit, and it is holding up fine after 2 years!

4Great watch for beach or pool
By C. Russell Whittle
I purchased this watch to replace my old Timex 1440 Sports Digital. It is a great watch if you spend a lot of time in the pool or at the beach. Setting the watch can be tricky, so best to save the instructions. Would purchase this watch again if anything happened to my current one.
