Fossil fuels are natural but non renewable source fuels or organic compounds made of hydrogen and carbon that create thru the natural decomposition of plants and animals over thousands of years. The fuels are employed in three forms petroleum oil, natural gas and coal, the most plentiful fossil fuel. They are inexpensive, easy to mine, storable and readily available but only for an approximated 60 years. A clean renewable source or roots ought to replace fossil fuel dependence.
Forms of fossil fuel provide us with almost all of our electricity, gasoline and heat in colder climates, the problem is that Earth’s crude oil supply is fixed and nonrenewable. Crude oil takes millions of years to develop beneath extreme conditions and may not be synthetically fabricated or recreated. Existing gas station and highway infrastructures are in a literal sense built around the distribution of petroleum oil or gas for cars. Because of the immense span of this system a alternate fuel must be designed to work with our current fossil fuel based infrastructure or the expense of a finish new one becomes a financially daunting, big construction project.
In addition to being non-renewable and difficult tricky to replace at the pumps, fossil fuels are responsible for massive environmental damage. Car and plane emissions bestow to international climate change, acid rain and ozone layer depletion. As the Middle East has the greatest supply of natural fossil fuels, shipping it all over the ocean has in the past has lead to massive oil spills which may have a major detrimental effect on ocean and animal life.
Our massive dependence on alien oil causes a very tense competitory merchandising environs where the U.S. has no control of the price of oil or the amounts available. If we do not run out primary we could reenter a national fuel crisis if alien origins refuse to supply or trade with us because of politics. The duration of our use of fossil fuels is consequently dependant on our marketing relations with oil rich areas like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran and Iraq. A cutting off of the supply already occurred in the “Mideast Oil Crisis” of the 1970′s and next time we need to be prepared. Crude oil reserves will last, at best sixty more years and only half of that time if our supply from the Middle East is terminated before it is completely depleted. Nuclear energy power plants are again beneath construction to maintain power and heat to homes. This generation will see the end of our fossil fuels supply if we are ready or not. Hopefully together we may safely transition to number of things from which only one can be chosen rather than panic as we in a literal sense run out of gas.
As consciousness arises, kids and adults are encouraged, occasionally through government grants and carpool lanes to walk, ride bikes or carpool together to work or school to conserve our cherished fossil fuel supply. Thousands of new green jobs are on the stage for creation and ought to be seized with innovation and a lively interest to give hope or courage to sustainable and renewable fuel origins for future generations.
While environmental education provides incentive for some, others will be encouraged to lessen use of fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions for monetary reasons. Many insist on a tax of fossil fuel to subsidize clean energy. Kyoto, informally known as the Earth Summit is an international environmental treaty intended to achieve global stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. The time for a alter from fossil fuel is a number one global issue best neared with quick action and innovation and with a clean and green, substitute fuel powered tomorrow in our minds’ eye.

Uncover the intriguing world beneath our feet
Rocks and Fossils disclose the state of the planet now and what the future may bring, including clues in regards to the shifting, altering nature of the continents, mountain ranges, oceans, and islands.
Rocks and Fossils is a beautifully illustrated book that brings life to the seemingly timeless landscape. It explains geological conceptions in applicable and intimate terms. Lively illustrations disclose a vast, concealed world thru cross-sections and cutaways with explanatory captions.
The book explores the internal engine of our planet — the liquid iron core distinguishable amongst terrestrial planets, which is the catalyst for the creation and destruction of land, mountain, and oceans.
Rocks and Fossils is organized in six main sections:
- The Dynamic Earth: the ever-changing nature of the world
- Ancient Worlds: life from the Precambrian era to the age of humans
- Key Features: how rocks and fossils form
- Rocks and Fossils in the Landscape: where to find fossils
- Minerals: How they form and why numerous are precious
- Fossils: signs of life from single-cell organisms to dinosaurs.
Rocks and Fossils explains the fossil record to show how prehistoric lifeforms are linked to plants and animals still on Earth. Why did a good deal of species survive and others perish? What does the future hold?

From BooklistA basic introduction to geology and paleontology, this predominantly pictorial treatment will lure newcomers to the subjects. Baiting the hook are a series of ancient-life illustrations depicting creatures from dissimilar segments of geologic time, from the Cambrian amount of time forward. Accompanied by photographs of progressed living descendants, the graphical design is without delay likeable and implicitly stresses a chain-of-being concept. Coenraads presents the necessary facts of how fossils are formed, how rocks are formed, and how plate tectonics work. His standard point: “With a little skill and knowledge, it is not difficult to read and interpret the rocky pages of Earth’s history.” While not writing a field manual, Coenraads explains what people on a rock-hunting field trip ought to look for and opens their imaginations to the former environmental conditions that the discoveries of a fossil, rock, or solid homogeneous inorgani substance will conjure. Beautiful and functional book. By Ahki This is one of the most beautiful books on minerals and fossils that I’ve ever seen. In addition there is easy to read and understand information though out. I liked it so much I sent a copy to a family member for a gift. Well worth it for anyone who likes the beautiful examples of the natural world or who wants basic Earth Science info. This is not meant to be a total resource but it is a pleasure to read or just look at the pictures!
